New Evidence That E-Cigarettes Help Smokers Quit

Some kissability issues aside, you wouldn’t want to look into his chest X-Rays.

For such an unassuming gadget, e-cigarettes created as much polarized partisanship as the controversial Obamacare legislation. Even if anti-smoking lobbyists theoretically lead healthier lives than an average smoker, they still risk dying of a heart attack, just on a very mention of the word “electronic cigarette”. The heart of the problem is that it is considered unethical to do medical tests on people, so scientific record of benefits and dangers of e-cigarettes is patchy. Although science usually lags behind the common sense, rest assured that no anti-smoking hype will last forever. Since e-cigarettes had been around for almost ten years, some positive things about them are now very well established.

In this article, BBC’s health correspondent Nick Triggle, quotes the results of a scientific study by University College London team. In his own words: “The survey of nearly 6,000 smokers found a fifth had quit with the aid of e-cigarettes. That was 60% higher than those who did not use the devices, the study said.”

Even better, the lead researcher Prof Robert West, one of the UK’s leading experts in this field, said: “E-cigarettes could substantially improve public health because of their widespread appeal and the huge health gains associated with stopping smoking.” However, not only experts from abroad prize the health benefits of e-cigarettes. For example, Dr. Joel Niztkin, Chair of the Tobacco Control Task Force for the American Association of Public Health Physicians concluded that “…if we get all tobacco smokers to switch from regular cigarettes to electronic cigarettes, we would eventually reduce the US death toll from more than 400,000 a year to less than 4,000, maybe as low as 400.”

TWO MILLION SMOKERS SWITCHED TO E-CIGS

The most contention is caused by the simple fact that the electronic cigarette is not a cigarette at all. Anti-smokers oppose them just because they are called cigarettes and they look like cigarettes. But semantics aside, e-cigs have almost nothing else in common with a traditional cigarettes. If we say that ordinary tobacco smoke is burnt up and charred barbeque, than e-cigarette is a tenderly stewed steak that preserved only the juicy stuff. With e-cigarettes you get only the essence, while traditional tobacco unconditionally delivers nuisance first, and the pleasure part second.

Not every smoker runs out to get X-Ray of his chest done, but Sean, of Elgin IL, USA did exactly that back in 2006. That was when he started smoking the first e-cigarettes. Then he did another X-Ray 5 years later. The difference is amazing.

This photo is by no means scientific evidence that e-cigarettes are better than traditional tobacco. These are simply two chest x-rays, posted online by a long term chain smoker, who switched to e-cigarettes almost as soon as they became available.  The X-ray on the left is conspicuously foggy as the rays bounce of accumulated tar residue. The X-ray on the right shows much of the ‘fogginess’ gone as the smoker’s lungs cleared.

E-Cigarette is a Big Money Saver

But electronic cigarettes, like Regal eCigs Starter Kit™, are not just easy on your lungs, they are easy on your pocket and provide you with substantial savings. Let’s do some simple math. A regular smoker would be smoking, more or less, a pack of tobacco cigarettes per day. In e-cigarette terms that is equivalent to one cartridge. While, on average, a pack of cigarettes costs $5.00 (which is mostly tobacco tax), one e-cigarette cartridge will cost just $1.00 (no tax). So, our regular smoker is saving $4.0 per day, and for 365 days that is a whopping saving of $1,424 per year!

Few Other Benefits that Smokers Enjoy with E-Cig Starter Kits:

  • Nothing is burned. That means no tar, no tobacco, no carbon monoxide, and no ash.
  • Nicotine hit is still there: e-cig cartridge holds the same (or smaller, depending on the grade you choose)  amount of nicotine as a regular cigarette.
  • Each cartridge costs less than $1 and is equivalent to an entire pack of cigarettes.
  • You can save around $1,400 each year.
  • E-Cigarettes don’t produce “smokers breath” and don’t leave unpleasant smell on your clothes,
  • Different flavors are available, like: tobacco, apple, chocolate, mint etc.
  • No more second-hand smoke.
